2012 Summary

Kala Darpan was founded this year to rejuvenate efforts to provide a formal platform to the top notch emerging performing/fine arts artists

from India and North America and to support efforts to maintain and grow the rich traditional art forms of India here in our city.

In year 2012 we hosted the following artists -

Manjusha Patil, Saylee Talwalkar (Hindustani Vocal)

Rajendra Teredesai, Vinayak Chittar (Hindustani Classical Instrumental)

We also provided platform to the local classical music/dance talent by hosting an Indo-Jazz concert and an India Dance Fest.

Summary for events -

No. of events - 5 (2 vocal concerts, 2 instrumental concerts, 1 Dance Fest).

Average Attendance - 60 (Min- 30/Max - 160)

Average gate collection ~ $750

With that background, we are making an effort to build a stronger foundation upfront for the future concerts.

The membership drive is one such initiative.

To put it in numbers, we estimate that 30 annual family memberships or 60 annual individual memberships can help us lay a decent foundation for

2 classical music events by top notch emerging visiting artists in a year in addition to other low-budget events.

In the absence of a greater and evident commitment from the local classical music enthusiasts, we will continue to bring those artists who are

- willing to perform largely on a "best effort" basis or

- for whom, patrons come forward as supporting donors/underwriters

The endorsed support of classical music lovers like you is essential to sustain a favorable environment to bring concerts

by emerging top notch artists to Austin area.
